AM Volleyball Club, based in the rural heart of Wayerera Village in Bindura, has proudly unveiled two of its athletes, Nigel Banda and Charles Chitedzi, who are set to represent Zimbabwe at the Confederation of African Volleyball Zone VI Beach Volleyball Series.

The tournament runs from May 23 to 25 in Maputo, Mozambique.

The duo received an official send-off at a ceremony attended by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central Province, Christopher Magomo. Also present was Sports and Recreation Commission provincial manager James Magara and his delegation.

Club founder and coach Aaron Mutede spoke passionately at the event, highlighting the sport’s potential in rural areas.

“Beach volleyball is a unique sport. Here in Mayera Village, we see it as a sport for Africans,” Mutede said. “It’s an Olympic discipline that doesn't demand expensive infrastructure. With our God-given sand, a ball, a net, and two players, we can dream big — and these two young men are proof of that.”

Mutede, who also leads the AM Volleyball Academy, emphasized that their mission goes beyond sport.

“Our goal is to use volleyball to steer young people away from drugs and towards purpose,” he said. “Our volleyball centre in Manhenga is the hub for all development. We believe promoting beach volleyball can keep youths engaged through meaningful after-school programs.”

He added, “Ultimately, we aim to nurture future Olympians.”
