AirZim Disposes of B777s, Eyes SA Growth

By Nyashadzashe Ndoro - Chief Reporter

Air Zimbabwe has initiated an international tender for the sale of two Boeing 777-200ER aircraft and is also seeking bids for various service contracts in South Africa. The announcement was made through General Notice 1075 of 2025.

The two Boeing 777-200ER aircraft are currently located at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare and are being offered for sale in their "as is" condition.

These planes were originally acquired in 2020 from Malaysia as part of a fleet recapitalisation effort under the Zimbabwe Airways project, which was subsequently reintegrated into Air Zimbabwe. However, the aircraft have seen limited operational use due to various factors, including a lack of certification and financial constraints.

The tender for the aircraft disposal, identified as AIRZIM/RFP/DISPOSAL OF B777-200ER AIRCRAFT /0001/2025, has a closing date of July 25, 2025, at 1000 hours.

In addition to the aircraft disposal, Air Zimbabwe is inviting bids for two service contracts related to its operations in South Africa. These include:

AIRZIM/IRFP/SA/GHAS/0002/2025:

South Africa Ground Handling Services, with a closing date of July 25, 2025, at 1000 hours.

AIRZIM/IRFP/SA/CARGO GSA/0003/2025:

South Africa Cargo and General Sales Agent, also with a closing date of July 25, 2025, at 1000 hours.

Interested international bidders, who must be registered with the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ), can download tender documents containing instructions and the scope of service from the official Air Zimbabwe website, www.airzimbabwe.aero, and the PRAZ portal, https://egp.praz.org.zw.
