The recent appointment of Soul Chaminuka as head coach at Dynamos FC has ignited a fresh wave of discontent among the club's loyal supporters, with many lamenting that the "Glamour Boys" have truly lost their way.
This latest coaching change, following a string of poor results under Lloyd "Mablanyo" Chingowe, has cast a harsh spotlight on the club's executive, with whispers growing louder that the real problem lies not in the technical bench, but in the boardroom.
Chaminuka, who took over from Mablanyo on May 13, 2025, inherits a team struggling in 16th position with a meager eight points from 11 matches. While Mablanyo's league form ultimately led to his departure, it's crucial to acknowledge his significant achievements. He successfully defended the prestigious Chibuku Super Cup and, for the first time in Dynamos' storied history, led them to victory in the Castle Challenge Cup. These accomplishments, however, appear to have been overshadowed by the team's struggles in the league, despite the immense challenges faced during the December holidays.
Dynamos endured a mass exodus of key players during that period, with several stars departing for rivals like Simba Bhora and Scottland FC. Among those who left was Mablanyo's highly-regarded assistant coach, Joel Lupahla, who joined Simba Bhora. Lupahla is flourishing at his new club, who are aiming to defend their league title, further suggesting that the technical capabilities of the coaching staff may not have been the root cause of Dynamos' woes.
Instead, fingers are increasingly being pointed at the Dynamos executive, led by chairman Moses Maunganidze. Critics argue that the executive is "clueless," only becoming visible when it's time to hire and fire coaches, but consistently failing to address the fundamental needs and wishes of the technical team.
Disturbing reports from the pre-season paint a grim picture of the executive's alleged inaction. It's understood that Mablanyo was left to organize friendly matches on his own, a task that squarely falls within the executive's purview. Furthermore, this publication has been reliably informed that the club at one point failed to pay for their training facility at Christ Ministries, forcing Mablanyo to dig into his own pockets to cover the costs – a damning indictment of the financial mismanagement at the club.
Compounding these issues, it's alleged that a comprehensive player wish list submitted by the technical team during the transfer window was completely ignored. The executive reportedly failed not only to convince a single desired player to join Dynamos but even to attempt to engage them, leaving the squad depleted and ill-prepared for the season.
The mounting evidence suggests a deep-seated rot within the Dynamos executive, with the club's "soul" being eroded by a leadership that appears detached from the realities of modern football management. Until these systemic issues are addressed, many fear that the coaching carousel will continue, and the "Glamour Boys" will remain a shadow of their former glorious selves.
