Nomadic football coach and former Highlanders and Warriors midfielder Rahman Gumbo has severed ties with his latest employer, Sua Flamingoes of Botswana, who showed him the door following a spate of poor results.

Gumbo has also coached FC Platinum, Chicken Inn, TelOne (Zim), Mighty Beforward Wanderers Football Club of Malawi, Gaborone United (Botswana) and Witbank Spurs (SA) among other clubs.

According to a letter in possession of Zim Now, he amicably agreed to part ways with Flamingoes with whom he lost five of six consecutive matches, confining the beleaguered team to the bottom four on the log standings of the BTC Premiership.

In the letter served by the club’s Media and Communications department, the 59 year-old gaffer was appreciated for having guided it to a top eight finish in its maiden season in the top flight league last year.

“Sua Flamingoes FC informs its valued supporters, stakeholders, the media and entire football fraternity that it has amicably parted ways with its head coach, Mr Rahman Allen Gumbo with immediate effect.

“The team takes this opportunity to thank coach Gumbo who immensely contributed to the growth of the team, leading to a top 8 finish in our maiden season in the elite league. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” reads the statement. He has been replaced by Kopane Phakedi who takes over on an interim basis.
