Grandpa kills friend over ZWL$80

Zim Now Writer

A 72-year-old man from Epworth appeared in court facing charges of killing his friend over ZWL$80.

Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure told Stephen Sixpence to stand down and wait to be called from custody to allow his lawyer to be present during trial.

Sixpence had told the magistrate that his son and his friends will represent him in court.

Zimbabwe law allows the authorities to assign a lawyer to someone facing murder charges if they cannot afford one.

The facts of the matter are that Sixpence allegedly committed the offence on December 5 when he assaulted the now deceased, Langton Kambamura with an iron bar on the head after the duo had a misunderstanding over a missing ZWL$80.

The deceased is reported to have been the owner of the money.  Following the assault, Kambamura died at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare due to the deep wound that he sustained in the attack.

The iron bar used to commit the murder was reportedly found in Sixpence's bedroom while eye witnesses also pinned him to the crime.
