The Zimbabwe Agricultural Society will this year host its inaugural Humanity Golf Day, whose main purpose is to raise funds for agricultural scholarships to help students facing financial hardships.

The golf tournament will be held on August 21, at the Royal Harare Golf Club.

The 115th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show will be held from the 25th to the 30th of August, and will run under the theme, “Building Bridges: Connecting Agriculture, Industry and Community.”

“The purpose of it (golf tournament) is to be able to give back to many of those students who want to do various agricultural programmes but unfortunately do not have the funds.

“The golf day is open to anybody who would like to play, at a cost of US$50 per player, people can play individually or groups,” said Hugo Rubatika, African Minds Chief Executive Officer and ZAS Events Manager.

Rubatika added: “what we are also excited about are the prizes, this is the first golf day you will walk away with steers, a pig or a year supply of cooking oil, mealie-meal, milk or bread, outside of the various prizes.

“It’s an exciting event that we are looking forward to because this is for a good cause, it is not about us raking in the money, but to be able to give back to young men and women in Zimbabwe, who want to pursue studies in agriculture.”

Zimbabwe Agricultural Society Chief Executive Officer Rufaro Gunundu said they aim to make the golf day an annual event.

It was also added that ZAS endeavours to make the scholarships, the biggest for agricultural colleges in the country.
