Mutare girl still awaits her 2020 A' Level results

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights in Mutare recently filed an application at Mutare High Court seeking an order compelling Zimbabwe School Examinations Council to release Yolandah Musonde’s “A” Level examination results.

Musonde sat for her “A” Level examinations in 2020 but has not received her results, almost two years later.

Posting on their social media (Twitter) ZLHR said they wrote a letter of demand in September 2022 on behalf of Musonde but there was no response from ZIMSEC.

“In the application, our lawyer Kelvin  Kabaya, argued that the 21-year-old Musonde has been and continues to be prejudiced by ZIMSEC’s failure to release her missing examination results and hence she has not been able to further her studies as she intended to due to the missing results,” said a statement from ZLHR.

Kabaya argued that Musonde, who desires to pursue university studies but is unable to do so due to the missing examination results, is being deprived of her right to further education as provided for under section 75(1)(a) of the Constitution as read with section 2 of the Education Amendment Act, 2020.

Most candidates who sat for their A' Levels in 2020, passed and enrolled in tertiary institutions have completed their second year of studies meaning those on three year programmes will be certified graduates at the end of 2024, an opportunity that the missing results has taken away from Yolanda.
