Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, HE Dr Tamer Almassri, has condemned Israel for what he called the “deliberate assassination” of Palestinian journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Qurayqa, describing the killings as part of a wider military strategy to silence witnesses to atrocities in Gaza.

Dr Almassri said the targeting of journalists is a war crime under international law, likening Israel’s actions to totalitarian regimes of the 20th century, including Nazi Germany, that eliminated those who could testify to mass killings and forced displacements.

“These are deliberate strikes against the eyes and ears of the world,” he said, warning that Israel had lost all moral and legal legitimacy. He called for Israeli leaders to be brought before the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The remarks follow his June 13, 2025, condemnation of Israel’s shutdown of internet and landline services in Gaza — a move he said was aimed at isolating the population. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that, as of June 12, about 55,104 Palestinians had been killed and 127,394 injured since the conflict began, with women and children making up roughly 70% of the casualties.

Dr Almassri urged the international community, especially nations funding Israel’s military operations, to end what he termed “enabling genocide” and instead uphold obligations under the UN Charter and humanitarian law.
