Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Secretary Angeline Mujeka last week grabbed a ZWL$300 000 hamper after being named first runner-up as the longest serving secretary during International Secretaries Day Celebrations.
The event, which was held at a local hotel in Masvingo, was conducted under the theme “Our success a reflection of your hard work” was put together to recognise and acknowledge the value of executive assistants and secretaries at the workplace.
The awards were handed out by Public Service Commission Manager Communications, Advocacy and Culture Management, Margaret Mzumara, who said PSC strives to achieve a work culture of productivity hinged on result-oriented outputs and impacts.
PSC Support Services Head Ferida Matambo, who gave a speech on behalf of Secretary General Dr Tsitsi Choruma, said secretaries are the face of all government ministries tasked to keep confidential information and serve as the bridge between executives, employees and the public.
“As executive assistants and secretaries, you play a pivotal role in the fulfilment of organisational goals and objectives as you are the key drivers of the day to day running of business as well as the running of the various offices and indeed ministries themselves.
“As such the very success of all our Managing Directors and Administrators (MDAs), and by extension that of Government reflects directly on your contribution in the grand scheme of things. Without such contribution by every one of you, the offices you represent will suffer greatly,” she said.
Florence Karimbo got a ZWL$150 000 hamper. She has served government for 40 years after joining the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services in January 1982.
