Harare’s moneyed suburb of Highlands has been rocked by scandal after a 23-year-old Mandara woman allegedly converted a Grosvenor Road property into a brothel disguised as a massage parlour.
Tanaka Mushambi, 23, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday facing charges of facilitating prostitution.
Prosecutors allege that between June and August, the upmarket address 817 Grosvenor Road became a hub where women were hired to provide sexual services to male clients in exchange for payment.
The lid was blown off the operation on August 19 in bizarre fashion, when a 14-year-old boy allegedly arranged an encounter with one of the women through an online platform, paying not with cash but with groceries.
Police moved in to arrest the woman involved and, ultimately, Mushambi herself.
Investigators say Mushambi played a central role in facilitating the illicit activities, which were masked behind the cover of “wellness and massage services.”
The court heard that the property became a revolving door for clients seeking more than relaxation therapy.
The magistrate denied bail, citing the risk of witness interference, and Mushambi was remanded in custody while investigations continue.
