A 43-year-old man from Spitzkop in Gwanda has been convicted by the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court for physically assaulting his wife, following a domestic dispute. He was sentenced to eight months in prison. Two months of the sentence were suspended for five years, while the remaining six months were suspended on the condition that he completes 210 hours of community service.
The incident occurred on the 22nd of August 2025, at approximately 2140 hours, following an argument after the man informed his wife of his intention to marry another woman. Two days later, he raised the issue again and, after the victim refused to engage in the conversation, he physically attacked her.
The court heard that the offender accused his wife of neglecting church duties before repeatedly assaulting her with his fists and a metal rod. The victim sustained injuries to her eye and a swollen head. She later managed to escape and filed a report with the police.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has strongly condemned the incident, urging the public to adopt a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of domestic violence.
