Zimsonc Industries Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Zimbabwe Zhongxin Coking Company, has officially begun cement production at its new mini plant in Hwange.

The company, incorporated in 2024, established the US$1.5 million facility in February this year and began trial production in August.

Early test runs have shown that the plant can produce up to 2,500 tonnes of high-quality cement per month.

Zimsonc is sourcing fly ash from its parent company’s thermal power station, clinker from Zambia, and slag from the Dinson Iron and Steel Company, creating a value chain that connects multiple players within Zimbabwe’s growing heavy industries sector.

“The company invested US$1.5 million in setting up the plant and has already demonstrated that it can produce 2,500 tonnes of high-quality cement per month.

"Zimsonc is using fly ash from its parent company’s thermal power station, clinker from Zambia, and slag from the Dinson Iron and Steel Company,” the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said.

The plant currently employs 40 locals, with the workforce expected to grow significantly as operations scale up.

Officials said the project is well-positioned to ease pressure on the domestic construction sector, which has faced rising demand for cement amid infrastructure development and housing projects.
