Zimbabwe Women have booked their place at next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier after a thrilling five-wicket victory over Uganda Women in the Africa Qualifier semi-final on Thursday.
Chasing 120 at the Namibia Cricket Ground, Zimbabwe looked in trouble at 86 for four in the 16th over before Nyasha Gwanzura and Beloved Biza turned the game around.
Gwanzura smashed 17 off just six balls, including two towering sixes, while Biza struck an unbeaten 16 from five deliveries. The pair plundered 28 runs off Sarah Akiteng’s over to seal the contest, with Zimbabwe reaching 120 for five in 17.4 overs.
Earlier, Uganda posted 119 for seven after being put in to bat. Janet Mbabazi (29) and Immaculate Nakisuuyi (26) steadied the innings, while Rita Musamali added an unbeaten 23. Gwanzura impressed with the ball as well, claiming two for 17, supported by Lindokuhle Mabhera’s two for 30.
The victory not only sets up a final clash with hosts Namibia on Saturday but also secures Zimbabwe’s ticket to the Global Qualifier in Nepal in 2026.
