President Mnangagwa Concludes Historic Visit to China

President Emmerson Mnangagwa returned home this morning following a landmark visit to China, during which Zimbabwe and China elevated their bilateral ties from a “Five-Star Iron Clad Friendship” to the “All-Weather Zimbabwe-China Community with a Shared Future.”

The move is expected to boost trade and deepen strategic economic partnerships, reinforcing solidarity between Zimbabwe, China, and the wider Global South.

President Mnangagwa attended the 80th Anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War at Tiananmen Square on Wednesday, joining other world leaders in Beijing.

During his visit, which began on Monday, he held a series of high-level meetings with Chinese business representatives exploring investment opportunities in Zimbabwe, as well as companies planning to establish operations in the country.

 The visit culminated in a landmark engagement with President Xi Jinping, focusing on enhancing economic diplomacy in line with Zimbabwe’s foreign policy objectives.

President Mnangagwa was seen off at Beijing Capital International Airport by senior Chinese officials, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to China Abigail Shonhiwa, and staff from the Zimbabwean Embassy.

He was accompanied on the trip by key government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Professor Amon Murwira, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, Attorney General Mrs Virginia Mabiza, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, and Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications Mr George Charamba.
