Four artisanal miners have died following a mine accident at Chengxi Gold Mine in Shurugwi on September 4, police have confirmed.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police said the victims were illegally prospecting for gold in a disused shaft when it collapsed, trapping them underground.

Rescue efforts led to the retrieval of the bodies, which have since been taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities continue to warn against the dangers of illegal mining activities, which remain prevalent in gold-rich districts such as Shurugwi.
Disused shafts are often unstable, putting the lives of miners at risk of cave-ins and suffocation.
