A man from Lobengula, Bulawayo, was caught stealing National Railways of Zimbabwe property and loading it onto his truck on June 14 this year.
Ozias Moyo, 40, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Tavengwa Sangster facing theft and bribery charges after he stole 14 scrapped cylinder heads and 26 locomotive tyres worth US$7 440 and later attempted to offer a US$60 bribe to the security officer who had apprehended him.
The court heard, through prosecutor Milton Moyo that NRZ security inspector, Paul Kuronga arrested Moyo at Mateu Road Retreat.
He then offered him US$60 bribe which Kuronga took and later used as evidence, leading to the accused’s arrest.
The value of the stolen property was as follows: scrapped cylinder heads US$2 065, locomotive tyres US$5 330 and a mild steel sheet worth US$45.
All the stolen property was recovered while Moyo was sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment, of which 15 were suspended on condition that Moyo does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
