The Under-19 squad for the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup has been announced. The tournament takes place in South Africa between January 14-29.
Zimbabwe is in group B alongside England, Pakistan and Rwanda and will begin the campaign against England in Potchefstroom on January 15.
Trevor Phiri will lead the team as head coach while all-rounder Kelis Ndhlovu will captain the side. The latter, at just 17, has already made 15 senior appearances for Zimbabwe, scoring 285 runs and taking 15 wickets.
Another inclusion in the squad, Michelle Mavunga, also 17, has also represented Zimbabwe at senior level, taking seven wickets in five T20Is since making her debut against Namibia in April.
Tawananyasha Marumani, sister of Zimbabwe men's international Tadiwanashe, and twins Kay and Kelly Ndiraya are among the other players to watch in the squad.
Sixteen teams have qualified for the event – 12 with direct qualification and four after winning their respective Qualifier tournaments.
