
Hwange Unit 6, one of the few running units, has been taken offline due to a system failure, according to a statement released by ZESA Holdings.
The unit is expected to remain out of operation for three days and is scheduled to return to service on October 10.

"We would like to inform our valued stakeholders that Hwange Unit 6 has been taken off the grid due to a system failure," ZESA Holdings stated. The power utility apologized for the outage, adding that they are working to restore full generation capacity.
During the shutdown, the Hwange Power Station will continue to operate with three units in service. ZESA Holdings assured the public that they are working to minimize disruptions and restore power generation capacity as soon as possible.
The same faulty Unit 6 has gone through a scheduled statutory maintenance from March 15 to May 14, 2025, but it appears the current shutdown is due to an unexpected system failure.
The power utility has been working to strengthen its infrastructure amid rising electricity demand and ongoing challenges in the energy sector.
