Zimbabwe’s Warriors produced a remarkable second-half comeback against Sierra Leone, overturning a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in a dramatic 17-minute spell that left fans stunned.
Sierra Leone appeared to be in control after taking a two-goal lead into halftime. However, Zimbabwe returned from the break with renewed determination and turned the match on its head with three goals in quick succession.
Marshall Munetsi sparked the comeback by pulling one goal back before Tawanda Chirewa found the equaliser to make it 2-2. Munetsi then completed the turnaround with his second goal of the match, giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead.
The dramatic turnaround came after a frustrating first half for Zimbabwean supporters, with some fans expressing their disappointment over head coach Roman Catala’s team selection and tactical decisions.
The comeback, however, quickly changed the mood among supporters, with fans taking to social media to celebrate the Warriors’ fighting spirit.
“They almost gave us a heart attack. What a comeback,” said Edmore Nyahumi.
Isaac Madanda was so impressed by the Warriors’ performance that he jokingly called for a high-profile friendly against one of the world’s strongest teams.

“Tell ZIFA president to request a friendly match against Spain because we are too good for these African teams,” Madanda said.
George Mugwado compared the comeback to the dramatic performances associated with European giants Real Madrid.
“The guys are giving us Real Madrid vibes. What a comeback,” he said.
Others used the occasion to call on ZIFA to give Catala time to build the national team rather than making frequent coaching changes.
“My message to you, ZIFA and President Nqobile Magwizi, please stop changing coaches like socks. This guy is a good coach, give him time and friendly matches. Thank you, lapha silo coach straight,” said Doubt Cele.
Bekhi Khuphe also urged the football authorities to remain patient with the coach and allow him to develop the team.
“Well played, Magents. Hopefully, the team can only get better from here. Another thing, please stick to the coach and allow him to build a monster of a national team,” Khuphe said.
The comeback provided a major boost for the Warriors ahead of their home game against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), scheduled for Monday, 28 September.
