
A 20 year old man from Zvishavane, Tafadzwa Zhou, has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court for armed robbery, with 12 months suspended on condition of good behaviour and a further six months suspended on condition of restitution.
He will serve 18 months behind bars.
Zhou was convicted after a violent robbery at Antony Mine Tuckshop in Zvishavane, where he and two accomplices, still at large, attacked a cashier, Tichatayi Kudonora, using knives and tasers. The incident occurred on August 14, 2025.
During the robbery, the complainant was stabbed on the left arm and tased three times before the robbers stole US$40 cash and two Monster gold detectors valued at US$1 540.

The accused later sold the stolen gold detectors to a local buyer.
Swift police investigations led by CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit Zvishavane resulted in the recovery of the stolen items after tracing transactions linked to the offender.
The court ordered Zhou to pay US$40 restitution to the complainant.
Magistrate’s court commended the quick action of law enforcement, saying it played a crucial role in securing justice.
“The swift response of law enforcement is highly commended,” the court said.
“Members of the public are urged to avoid handling or buying stolen or suspicious property, as doing so fuels crime and may lead to arrest.”
