The case of Gogo Plaxedes Mashasha of Zengeza 3 in Chitungwiza has been postponed to January 23 after it emerged that prosecutors are yet to receive and read through the docket.
Harare regional magistrate Barbara Mateko on Friday postponed the alleged culpable homicide case pending the furnishing of a trial date.
Mashasha was arrested in November last year after spending days with the decomposing body of her late husband, Gideon.
She also allegedly kept her 39-year-old mentally unstable son, Grant, in the ceiling of their house for over a decade.
The Chitungwiza woman was later sent for psychiatric tests by regional magistrate Clever Tsikwa following the bizarre incident and doctors declared that she was fit for trial.
Gogo Mashasha was then granted $50 000 bail, which nearly flopped last month after State prosecutor, Pamela Dzinduwa, argued her release would cause public disorder.
“There has been public outcry over the matter, and it was on all social media platforms. So, to protect her, may the accused be denied bail,” Dzinduwa submitted in court.
Tsikwa, however, granted her bail, arguing that the State had failed to make convincing submissions to support its claims.
