ZRP Seeks Fraud Suspect Linked to Major SIM Swap Scam

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a public appeal for information that may lead to the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a high-profile fraud case involving fraudulent SIM replacements and substantial financial losses.

According to a statement dated October 21, 2025, the police are seeking assistance in locating Tinashe Taurai Muzanenhamo, who is accused of orchestrating several SIM swap and hacking incidents that resulted in the loss of US$17,809.50 and ZWL$30,665,912.30 from victims’ mobile money accounts.

The ZRP detailed that Muzanenhamo allegedly obtained victims’ personal details — including names and phone numbers — through methods such as phishing, data breaches, or social engineering.

Using this information, he would reportedly request SIM replacements from mobile service providers.

“Subsequently, he would then activate the new SIM card leading to the deactivation of the victim’s mobile number and unauthorized access to their financial accounts,” the police statement reads.

After gaining control of the victims’ numbers, the suspect is said to have withdrawn funds from their mobile money wallets. In some cases, he also allegedly impersonated the victims on WhatsApp to solicit cash from their contacts under false pretenses.

The police have appealed to members of the public to assist in locating the suspect.
“Anyone with information which may lead to the arrest of the suspect should contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631, WhatsApp on 0712 800197, visit the website www.zrp.gov.zw, or report at any nearest police station,” reads part of the statement signed by Commissioner Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations) to the Commissioner-General of Police.
