Zimbabwe’s Strongest Woman, Chido Maenzanise, made history over the weekend after being crowned Africa’s Strongest Woman in a tightly contested tournament held in South Africa.
The 30-year-old athlete triumphed in the two-day competition, which featured top strength competitors from Zambia, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Algeria and host nation South Africa. Her victory adds to an already impressive track record, bringing her total medal tally to 28.
Speaking after her win, Chido said this was the most challenging competition she has faced so far.
“It was a very tough competition out of all the ones I’ve taken part in. This was the hardest because I was competing directly with athletes from Ghana and South Africa, and they really pushed me. Yesterday’s provisional results actually had South Africa in first place, and Ghana and I were tied,” she said.

Chido said she did not expect the final outcome.
“I thought the tie would be broken between me and Ghana for second and third place, but I couldn’t believe it when the final tally was announced and I was the one in first place. It was a miracle for everyone. All I can say is God is great, and if you work hard, you will win.”
She expressed gratitude to those who have supported her journey.
“I would like to thank all the sponsors who have helped me, the government, and my coaches who always push me to be my best. This victory is the result of everyone’s support.”
The Africa’s Strongest Man and Woman 2025 competition featured grueling events including the Deadlift Max Challenge, Truck Pull Showdown, Giant Dumbbell Press for Reps, Yoke and Sandbag Relay, Super Farmers Carry, and the Atlas Stones Finale.
