Greystone Park Nursery Boss Accused of Failing to Account for US$84k

A director at Greystone Nursery School in Harare’s Greystone Park suburb has appeared in court facing charges of theft of trust property after allegedly failing to account for more than US$84 000 in school funds.

Candice Prinsloo, 52, who holds a 49 percent shareholding in the nursery school and also serves as its head responsible for daily operations, is accused of misappropriating funds paid by parents for school fees and registration between January 1 and October 8, 2025.

According to the State, Prinsloo was responsible for collecting school fees and depositing the money into the institution’s CABS Corporate Nostro account.

However, it is alleged that she diverted part of the funds for personal use without the knowledge or consent of the complainant, fellow director and majority shareholder, David Joseph Tigere, who holds 51 percent of the shares.

Tigere, who oversees the school’s finances, became suspicious in early October when he requested a breakdown of funds collected throughout the year.

The court heard that Prinsloo was uncooperative and refused to grant access to the financial records.

A police report was filed on October 8, leading to investigations which revealed that Prinsloo had collected a total of US$252 589.27 in cash payments from parents. Her recorded expenditures accounted for US$142 258.37, leaving a balance of US$110 330.90 unaccounted for.

The court further heard that Prinsloo only produced US$26 316, which was being held in trust at Titan Law Chambers, contrary to the agreed financial procedures for the school.

Authorities allege that US$84 014.90 remains unaccounted for.

The matter was remanded to November 25, 2025, for continuation.
