Zim Biscuits Sales Rep in Court Over US$55k Stock Theft Scheme

A sales representative at Zim Biscuits Company has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing allegations of stealing stock worth US$55 372 in what prosecutors describe as an elaborate internal fraud scheme.

Usher Canaan Gudyani ,33, appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo on theft charges. He was not asked to plead and was remanded to December 4, 2025 when his case will be co-joined with that of his alleged accomplice, Portia Kazingizi, who is already on remand.

According to prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe, the offences were committed between January 2024 and September 2025.

During this period, Gudyani, whose duties involved selling company products across the country, allegedly connived with Kazingizi, who was responsible for processing payments in the company’s system, to divert funds from sales.

The court heard that Gudyani would report on the company’s internal WhatsApp platform that stock had been sold and payments received. However, the money was never deposited into the company’s accounts. Instead, it was allegedly shared between him and Kazingizi.

Kazingizi is accused of manipulating the company’s financial system to reflect cleared payments for the sales, concealing the theft.

The offence came to light in September 2025 during a routine financial audit, when management discovered discrepancies between reported payments and actual bank deposits. A deeper investigation revealed that the stock in question, although marked as “paid for,” had not been accounted for financially.

A police report was subsequently filed at ZRP Harare Central, leading to Gudyani’s arrest.

The total value of the misappropriated stock stands at US$55 372, and nothing has been recovered. Both suspects are facing charges of theft.
