Gary Ballance, fresh from having left Yorkshire to play cricket in Zimbabwe, has been drafted into the Chevrons squad that faces Ireland for three T20Is and three ODIs.
The batter, Ballance, had an amicable exit from the English side, opting to return to Zimbabwe where he reckons he has prospects of better fortunes. He has since signed a two-year contract.
The Ireland-Zimbabwe fixtures, which the latter is hosting, begin on January 12. They begin with three T20Is up to January 15, succeeded by three ODIs that will run from January 18-23. All six matches take place at Harare Sports Club.
While the ODI squad is yet to be released, there is news to the effect that for the T20I, star-player Sikandar Raza will be absent after he was given permission to play in the ILT20. Fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani is also missing as he continues to recover from injury.
On the flip side, Ireland have also allowed Paul Stirling and Josh Little to miss the T20Is to play in the ILT20 and SA20 respectively. However, both will return to Ireland’s squad for the ODIs. Simi Singh, who has been a regular for Ireland in recent years, has been left out.
