High-level support for 15-year minimum rape sentences | The Herald

A Mutare man had sexual intercourse with a 12 year-old minor and now faces two counts of rape for the offence.

James Muzvongi, 18, is being charged with rape as defined in Section 65 (1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23. He appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts which ordered him to return on January 16. He was advised to apply to the high court for bail consideration.

The state’s case is that Muzvongi was in a love relationship with the minor who is the complainant in the matter.

The court heard that on January 2, 2023, at around 1900 hours Muzvongi met with the complainant and invited her over to where he lived.

They went into his bedroom and upon entry, Muzvongi started to touch the complainant's body in romantic gestures.

He lifted her and placed her on his bed facing upwards. Muzvongi then removed her pants and tights and lifted her skirt so that he could have sex with her. He had two encounters with the minor that night.
