Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amon Murwira, has expressed deep appreciation for outgoing UN Women Representative Fatou Aminata Lo, recognising her three and a half years of dedicated service to the country.
Ms. Lo’s tenure delivered several key milestones, including support for the National Strategy on Women in Leadership and Decision-Making, contributions to the Marriage Act — which outlawed child marriage under 18 — and initiatives promoting economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, HIV response, and the transformative Spotlight Initiative’s High-Level Political Compact to end gender-based violence.

Murwira highlighted the strong partnership forged under Ms. Lo’s leadership, which enhanced collaboration between UN Women, the Ministry of Women Affairs, and other key ministries and institutions across Zimbabwe.
During a meeting at his Munhumutapa Offices, he reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and full participation of women and girls in all spheres of life.
Reflecting on her tenure, Ms. Lo celebrated the strong collaboration with multiple ministries and UN agencies.
She noted achievements such as the updated National Gender Policy, the launch of the National Women’s Gender Machinery Coordination Framework, and the integration of gender equality as a priority in the NDS1/NDS2 development agenda.
