Zimbabwean Duo Nabbed in SA with R180,000 in Illicit Cigarettes ​

 

Two Zimbabwean men are facing charges after being arrested in Tzaneen, Limpopo province, South Africa, for the possession of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes valued at approximately R180,000 (US$10,000).

​The arrests followed a tip-off received by the South African Police Service that two white Toyota Corolla Quest vehicles were transporting the illicit consignment from Musina toward Tzaneen.

​Police located the vehicles heading toward the Tzaneen industrial area and attempted to intercept them. Both drivers ignored the stop signal and sped off toward the Tzaneen Sasol garage, leading officers on a high-speed chase.

​The pursuit concluded near the Sasol industrial area, where police successfully cornered and stopped both cars. A subsequent search revealed that both vehicles were "full of illicit Remington Gold cigarettes."

​The two suspects, identified as Zimbabwean nationals aged 37 and 48, were arrested immediately at the scene. They are scheduled to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on 2 December 2025 to face formal charges related to the possession of illicit cigarettes.
