A 25-year-old Harare man has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing five counts of theft after he allegedly smashed vehicle windows and stole cash, phones, a laptop and other valuables from cars parked at different locations in the city.
Learnmore Mushongonyo is facing five counts of theft linked to alleged vehicle break-ins between August 2 and August 30, 2026.
The court heard that on August 2, at about 4.20am, at the corner of Kirkman Road and Harare Drive, Mushongonyo allegedly smashed the passenger door window of Joel Maposa’s vehicle and stole a wallet containing US$200.
On August 8, at about 11.25pm, at the same intersection, he allegedly smashed the passenger window of another vehicle with an unknown object and stole a Redmi 13C cellphone belonging to Chiedza Maenzana.

The court further heard that on August 24, at the corner of Sherwood Road and Samora Machel Avenue, Mushongonyo allegedly smashed a passenger door window and stole a handbag containing US$105, a driver’s licence and three bank cards belonging to Tendai Gweje.
On August 25, at Rabbit Restaurant in Golden Quarry, he allegedly smashed the rear right quarter glass of Goba Simbarashe’s vehicle and stole an HP laptop and a bag containing personal documents.
In the fifth count, the court heard that on August 30, again at the Kirkman Road and Harare Drive intersection, Mushongonyo allegedly smashed a passenger door window and stole a GTel Delta cellphone belonging to Adrian Sibanda.
The stolen property had not been recovered by the time of the court appearance.
Police investigations allegedly linked Mushongonyo to the series of break-ins following reports made by the complainants.
