Magaya’s Bodyguard Remanded Again

Tapiwa Felix Chikondo, a 35-year-old security aide to church leader Walter Magaya, has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on charges of obstructing the course of justice.

He was arrested on December 2, 2025.

The matter was postponed, and Chikondo is expected back in court on December 5 for a bail ruling.

Chikondo’s arrest stems from a police investigation into a rape complaint filed against the cleric he serves. The National Prosecuting Authority alleges that Chikondo interfered with a witness in the ongoing case.

According to prosecutors, the alleged obstruction occurred in November 2025, when Chikondo reportedly contacted the complainant’s mother and attempted to discourage her from cooperating with law enforcement. He is also accused of facilitating communication between the complainant’s mother and the church leader.

The State further alleges that Chikondo sent US$200 via EcoCash to the complainant’s mother, saying it was for transport to Harare to “settle” the matter.

On November 28, 2025, he allegedly visited the complainant’s home to discuss the case, despite being warned that interfering with a police investigation is unlawful. Police later recovered an EcoCash agent’s register on December 1, 2025, linking him to the transaction.

The NPA emphasised its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the legal process, stating: “No individual, regardless of social standing or affiliation, is permitted to obstruct police investigations. Attempts to influence witnesses or derail due process are serious offences, and the State will act decisively to protect the administration of justice.”
