The medical profession has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death on Sunday, January 8, of a prominent Kwekwe-based medical practitioner, Dr Conway Zengeza.

Zengeza is a former president of the Zimbabwe Medical Association.

He is reported to have been stung by wasps at his home as he was switching off lights in his garage. Efforts to have him get medical attention at Topomasi private hospital were in vain.

A colleague confirmed the incident, while the ZIMA Midlands president, Dr Mkhokheli Ngwenya said of their contemporary’s demise:

“The 8th of January will forever be remembered for the pains we are suffering following the sudden passing on of one of the prominent and illustrious doctors.

“It was not a good morning to us as doctors, as people, as the Midlands community and beyond the Midlands Community. We have really lost as a country, we have lost as a profession.”

A statement from the Lancet Clinical Laboratories Zimbabwe read:

“Sad to receive bad news this morning that one of Kwekwe's prominent medical practitioners and our loyal partner for many years Dr Conway Zengeza has passed on. Our sincere condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”
