A 25 year-old woman from Pioneer Village, Fort Rixon, was strangled to death by an unknown assailant on January 2 and, according to police, the body was found on a bed in her room.
“The body was half naked, wearing a green skirt, which was pulled up, with empty condom covers scattered on the floor.
“A post-mortem was conducted at the United Bulawayo Hospitals on January 9 and the results indicated that death was due to asphyxia and strangulation,” said the Police.
Investigations are underway.
In another case, police in Karoi arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a case of attempted robbery at Chikangwe Township on January 9.
Tapiwa Mubondi persuaded the complainant, a shopkeeper who had closed for the day to open on the pretext that he wanted to buy some tissues.
“While in the shop, the suspect wore a balaclava and produced a toy gun which he used to threaten the complainant with while demanding cash.
“The complainant alerted her husband who was outside, the suspect tried to escape, but was apprehended by the mob,” police said.
Police recovered the toy gun from the suspect.
