Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi scored in the third minute to give his French side, Stade De Reims, maximum points in a league match played at the Stade Francois Coty on Wednesday, January 11.
The solitary goal by the former Orlando pirates midfielder took his club’s tally to five wins, nine draws and four loses. They are now on the 11th position in the log standings.
An excited Munetsi twitted after the victory: “ Give thanks to the Lord. Massive away win. @StadeDeReims we keep going.”
During the 2023 French Ligue 1 season, he featured in 12 matches (plus 2 as a substitute) and averages 24 passes per match with a pass completion rate of 73%, and has one assist.
In their first league match of the season played on January 2, Stade De Reims drew 1-1 away at seventh on the table Lille and on Sunday they host Nice who they are tied with on 24 points but have a superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, Munetsi is now part of The Fédération Internationale des Associations de Footballeurs Professionnels (FIFPRO) Global Player Council. The Zimbabwean is one of the three names that have been added, with the others being Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid/Nigeria) and Enez Mango (Farul Constanta/Kenya). That brings the total number of players on the council to 34.
