Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande has showered praise on Kalisto Pasuwa and Lloyd Mutasa for identifying and grooming him talent to scale greater levels.

Speaking on DJ Ola 7’s programme On the Spot, Katsande thanked the duo from Chitungwiza.

“I was a bench warmer, a mere squad member until Kalisto Pasuwa came to Mutare (to join Highway), along with Lloyd Mutasa,” Katsande said.

“They (the coaches) saw me training and said there’s a player here.

“They started playing me from the day they came in 2008 and we managed to get promotion into the PSL.”

From Highway, the Mutare-bred footballer joined Gunners FC and did well with the team.

He later joined Ajax FC of South Africa, but he later struggled for game time before the club decided to offload him.

However, before he was off-loaded, he received an offer to join Kaizer Chiefs where he is regarded as a legend.

He won several trophies with Amakhosi, which includes the league title.

“I struggled for game time at Ajax and the coach decided to offload me but before I came to Zimbabwe for national duty against Zambia, we played that match at night, and I was on fire, but I didn’t know that there were Kaizer Chiefs scouts in the stands. After the game, Tinashe (Nengomasha) came to me and said Kaizer Chiefs were interested, that is how I joined Amakhosi,” said Katsande.

Katsande, who captained Zimbabwe at Afcon 2017, moved to Sekhukhune United in 2021 but retired from playing football the following year.

He is now Sekhukhune’s club brand ambassador while also managing his clothing company, Boss Yamboka.
