Women should take up empowerment opportunities so that they can change the unfair narrative which portrays them as weak and vulnerable, Concord Young Women in Business Global president has said.

Apphia Nyasha Musavengana said this following a YWIB board meeting with Acting President Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga last Thursday at his offices.

"As women we should change that narrative which portrays us as weak and vulnerable but we have stand out and be counted.

"We have to show that we can equally do what our male counterparts can do so we should seize opportunities which come our way and excel,” said Musavenganawho  led a team from her organisation as they apprised VP Chiwenga on the Women 2023 roadmap.

"Women need to take part in the projects which have been opened for them by the Second Republic because these are being done for us so we are empowered.

"So we are thanking the government for their support for the continuous push for women empowerment," said Musavengana.

She said that while women face many challenges they should never let these deter them from reaching their full potential.

Musavengana also stated that their organisation will do all it can to eliminate some of the challenges which hinder women from being empowered.

"We are saying women should have improved access to health, we are also saying we need to end child marriages and to make sure that no woman dies of HIV and AIDS.

"If we are truly empowered then we cannot continue to have women dying while giving birth.

"So we are calling on women to show that they want to be empowered, they need to act because just talking is not enough.

"So I'm happy that our meeting was very fruitful and we will build on the wise counsel we got from the VP," said Musavengana.

During the meeting, VP Chiwenga is said to have encouraged women to take part in economic development initiatives which will help them to be empowered so that they are not left behind.

It is said the Vice President who also doubles as Health Minister, said women in health also need to be empowered.

The YWIB was founded in Zimbabwe on August 8, 2015 before it was also launched in New York, Hong Kong, Beijing, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa.

Its main objective is to reach every woman to have 10 million entrepreneurs by 2030.

The organisation won the ZimAchievers Award for the Community Organisation of the Year for its support for women in business.
