Olinda Chapel Appears in Court Over Cyberbullying Charges

Businesswoman and socialite Olinda Chapel, 42, of Vainona, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of cyberbullying and harassment.

Chapel allegedly took to social media on December 17, 2025, at around 1pm, where she conducted a live video on Facebook during which she hurled insults and threats at another woman, identified as Dyonne Tafirenyika.

The State, represented by prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe, told the court that Chapel referred to Tafirenyika as a “prostitute” and threatened to “deal with her,” actions which the prosecution says were intended to intimidate, humiliate and cause emotional distress.

The video, which was publicly accessible on the platform, is alleged to have been posted with the intention to degrade or demean Tafirenyika.

Chapel was charged under the Cyber and Data Protection Act, which criminalises the use of digital platforms to harass, bully or cause psychological harm to others.

She was admitted to US$100 bail and is expected to return to court on January 16, 2026.
