Zim dancehall artist Wallace Chirumiko a.k.a Winky D scooped another international award when he was voted the Best Male Artist in Southern Africa. The All Africa Music Awards ceremony was held in Dakar, Senegal on Sunday, January 15.
Winky D’s song Happy Again won the award competing with the likes of A-Reece (SA), Blxckie (SA), DJ Tarico (Mozambique), Gemini Major (Malawi), Focalistic (SA), Kabza De Small and Dj Maphorisa (SA), Muskateers (Namibia), Master KG (SA) and Zakes Bantwini (SA).
Commenting on his Twitter post, Winky D thanked his fans for their unwavering support for the reggae maestro.
“My musical heart continues to overflow with boundless gratitude. I will continue appreciating the support you give me.
“Having you behind my music remains a blessing l can’t exchange for anything in this life. It remains the biggest inspiration to my musical dreams,” he said.
Winky D has several awards to his name including two NAMA awards for Best Album and People’s Choice Award, 2020 African Entertainment Awards USA for Best Dancehall Artist, Best Album (Njema) at the Zim Dancehall Awards and the Best African Dancehall Artist at the 2020 Entertainment Reggae and World Music Awards.
He recently launched his 15-track album Eureka Eureka featuring several artists including Tocky Vibes, Exq, Enzo Ishall, Quonfuzed, Killer T and Nutty O, Dr Chaii, Bazooker, Herman among others.
