Africa University Strengthens Community with New Appointments and Leadership Transition

Africa University   appointed   new members of staff who joined the institution during the year, marking an important step in strengthening its academic, administrative, and spiritual community. The University also confirmed a key leadership transition aimed at advancing its mandate in peace, leadership, and governance.

As part of the transition,  Alexander Rusero, who had served as Head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy in the College of Social Sciences, Theology, Humanities and Education, assumed the role of Director of the Professor Rukudzo Joseph Murapa Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance.  Rusero brought to the position a strong academic and professional background, holding a PhD in International Relations from the University of Pretoria, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate qualifications from the University of Zimbabwe. His expertise was further enriched by training in journalism, labour relations, and humanitarian work, and his research interests encompassed peace and security, diplomacy, governance, humanitarian affairs, and labour relations.

The University also welcomed Reverend Superintendent Eunice Marima as Chaplain. Reverend Marima was a distinguished Zimbabwean academic and retired police superintendent with extensive experience in chaplaincy and pastoral care. She held master’s degrees in Religious Studies and International Relations, alongside qualifications in theology. Her career included senior chaplaincy roles in universities, hospitals, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police, from which she retired at the rank of Superintendent. Internationally, she served with the United Nations Police in South Sudan and received several honours from the UN, SADC, and the ZRP. At the time of her appointment, she also served as President of the Zimbabwe Universities Association of Chaplains.

. Sekai Christine Mbotshani joined the Office of Advancement and Public Affairs as Marketing Officer. She held a Master of Commerce degree in Marketing Management from Great Zimbabwe University, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from GSM-IMM, and a Certificate in Public Relations from LCCI. Her professional background included senior roles at Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences and Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University, where she led initiatives in media relations, branding, events, resource mobilization, and stakeholder engagement.

The University further strengthened its administrative capacity with the appointment of Mr. Tashinga Chari as Procurement Officer. Mr. Chari held a Master’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, a Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing and Supply, and a Chartered International Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport, in addition to several professional certifications. With over eight years of experience across non-governmental organizations, public institutions, and the private sector, he previously served in senior procurement roles at CeSHHAR, NatPharm, Plus Five Pharmaceuticals, and The Vamara Group. His achievements included managing major donor-funded projects and leading procurement during the Cyclone Idai emergency response, as well as being named the 2024 Zimbabwe Institute of Procurement and Supply Rising Procurement Star Award recipient.

Africa University warmly welcomed the new staff members and leadership appointee, expressing confidence that their diverse experience and commitment would contribute meaningfully to the institution’s mission and its continued service with excellence and purpose in God’s project.
