Man Attacks Wife With Brick After She Rejects Reconciliation

 

A Harare man appeared in court after he allegedly attacked his wife with a brick at her workplace following a failed attempt to reconcile.

Lazarus Shonga (33), of Churu Farm, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing attempted murder charges. The complainant, Trish Musonza (23), is Shonga’s wife and a self-employed resident of Budiriro 2 in Harare.

According to court papers, the incident occurred on February 7 at around 2300 hours when Shonga approached Musonza at her workplace seeking reconciliation after she had left their home.

Prosecutors allege that when Musonza rejected his request, Shonga became violent and struck her several times with a brick on the head, face and left hand.

Musonza sustained injuries and sought medical attention following the attack.

Shonga was later arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He appeared before magistrate Learnmore Mapiye, with prosecutor Kudakwashe Muza representing the State.

Shonga is expected to return to court on March 16, 2026, for further proceedings.
