Morocco’s AFCON Appeal Denied: Prize Money and Medals Remain with Senegal

Morocco’s attempt to reclaim prize money and medals from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been rejected, as the appeals court upheld the original ruling in favor of Senegal.

The dispute centered on Morocco’s demand for the tournament winner’s prize money and the return of individual medals, following the 2025 AFCON. French sports outlet Foot Mercato reported on March 26 (Korea time) that the appeals court dismissed all of Morocco’s claims, maintaining the previous judgment.

“The court rejected both of Morocco’s requests, namely the return of the winner’s prize money and the return of individual medals,” Senegal Football Federation lawyer Sédou Diagne confirmed.

The case carried symbolic weight beyond finances, touching on the legitimacy of the tournament’s results and administrative procedures. Morocco’s demands were seen as an attempt to overturn the outcome, while the return of medals would have directly affected the players involved.

Despite the ongoing legal action, the appeals court clearly upheld the status quo, confirming Senegal as the rightful champion and validating the associated prize distribution.

For now, the controversy appears to be drawing to a close, with the ruling reinforcing the authority of tournament results and the federation’s administrative decisions. Morocco could still respond, but any practical reversal of the outcome would be highly challenging.
