The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority has intercepted an undeclared firearm concealed inside a traveller’s suitcase at Plumtree Border Post, highlighting ongoing concerns over illegal weapons movement across Zimbabwe’s borders.
In a statement released on Sunday, ZIMRA confirmed that the weapon was discovered during a routine customs inspection conducted on March 28.
According to the authority, alert officers identified the firearm after inspecting luggage belonging to a traveller attempting to cross through the border post.

ZIMRA said the interception demonstrated the vigilance of its officers, whose work plays a key role in maintaining national security and preventing illicit goods from entering or leaving the country.
“The interception reflects the professionalism of our officers and their continued commitment to protecting communities and strengthening border security,” the authority said.
The revenue authority reminded travellers that all goods, including firearms and controlled items, must be declared upon entry or exit, warning that failure to comply with customs regulations constitutes an offence.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the type of firearm recovered, the identity of the suspect, or the intended destination of the weapon.
The incident has renewed attention on the risk of arms smuggling at Zimbabwe’s ports of entry, particularly as concerns grow over the circulation of illegal firearms linked to rising violent crime in parts of the country.
