A violent robbery in Harare has landed Kudzanayi Levy Zhakata a 12-year prison sentence, following an attack that left a man injured and stripped of his vehicle and valuables.
The incident occurred on February 21, 2026, along Zvimba Road in Glenorah, when Zhakata and an accomplice—still at large—targeted a Toyota Vitz driven by the victim. The pair smashed the driver’s window with a stone, assaulted him, and forced him into the back seat.

The robbers made off with a Samsung cellphone, vehicle parts, and US$300. The victim was later pushed out of the car but managed to spot the Toyota Vitz in Glenview 1, giving chase until the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled.
Police investigations recovered the stolen cellphone, which led to Zhakata’s identification and arrest.
At Harare Magistrates' Court, Zhakata was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment, with one year suspended for five years and a further two years suspended on condition that he pays US$700 in restitution. He will therefore serve an effective 10-year jail term.
