The owner of a company selected by FBC Holdings to renew its email security licence reportedly took advantage of advance payment of ZWL$28 million requested to apply for forex through the auction system and blew the money instead.

Mark Tanyaradzwa Maraire, who is a director of Morden Niche Digital Consulting and his firm yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure on allegations of defrauding FBC Holdings of $27 857 850.

Maraire and his company were not asked to plead to the charges.

Allegations were that on August 11 last year, FBC engaged Maraire and his company for renewal of the bank’s email security licence.

FBC Holdings, whose licence was due to expire in September last year and were satisfied that Maraire’s company was registered as partners the British company that provides the licence, Proof Point.

After quoting $27 857 850, FBC transferred the amount into Morden Niche Digital Consulting’s account so that they could apply for forex at the Reserve bank of Zimbabwe.

However, the court heard, Maraire converted all the money to his own use and never applied for the forex as expected.
