A man from Sub-Division 10 Delfounten Estate A in Chipinge appeared before Chipinge Magistrates’ Courts facing fraud charges after hesold a non-existent stand.
Ashirai Mawere is accused of selling a non-existent stand to Clever Sibiya, 52, a pastor in the UK whose local address is Number 307 Fairview Road Borrowdale, Harare.
Magistrate Alfred Chinembiri remanded Mawere out of custody to February 13, 2023.
Prosecuting, Delia Kataziye told the court that the two met on WhatsApp sometime in 2020 and became friends. Sibiya then sought Mawere’s assistance in getting a piece of land.
Mawere then asked Sibiya to pay US$6 150 for a 7-hectare piece of land at Plot number 25 Ravenwood Farm in Chipinge. The money was sent through via World Remit, Chipinge.
Mawere reportedly showed Sibiya’s son, Tonderai Desmond, a 7-hectare piece of land that does not belong to him. Tonderai was chased away by the owner of the land.
Sibiya then discovered that Mawere had duped him.
Mawere is being represented by Tariro Tazvitya of Bere Brothers.
