Chikangwe Man Jailed 12 Months for Stealing Vendor’s Stock

 

A 44-year-old Chikangwe man has been sentenced to an effective 12 months in prison after stealing snacks, soft drinks and cooler boxes worth US$90 from a vendor’s secured trading stock in Karoi.

Winners Mukangaza, of Chikangwe, Karoi, was convicted of theft by the Karoi Magistrates’ Court following the incident that occurred at Swift Complex.

The complainant, a 32-year-old vendor from Westview, Karoi, had secured her refreshments — including snacks, biscuits, soft drinks and two cooler boxes — inside a fenced trading area at Swift Complex on April 11, 2026, at around 1900 hours before closing for the day.

The court heard that when she returned the following morning, she discovered that the merchandise, valued at US$90, had been stolen.

The stolen goods included nine mega snacks, eight packs of biscuits, several bottles of Mirinda and two cooler boxes.

Investigations began after a breakthrough on April 13, 2026, when a witness was found in possession of one of the stolen cooler boxes. This discovery led police to Mukangaza, who was arrested at Ringo Leisure Night Club later that same day.

Police subsequently recovered the stolen property.

Mukangaza was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment for the theft. 

The court also activated a previously suspended four-month prison term arising from an earlier conviction, bringing the effective custodial sentence to 12 months’ imprisonment.
