TICSA Injects US$20k into Zim Cricket Development Drive

Zimbabwe Cricket has received a US$20 000 financial boost from the Tobacco Industries Cricket Supporters Association, renewing a partnership that has supported the sport locally for more than four decades.

The donation was officially handed over this week by TICSA chairman Dave Bain during a meeting with ZC managing director Givemore Makoni, signalling continued private-sector backing for cricket development in Zimbabwe.

TICSA has historically played a major role in the growth of the game, including financing the western grandstand at Harare Sports Club ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2003, when Zimbabwe hosted group-stage matches. The association has also supported youth development through scholarship programmes aimed at nurturing emerging players.

Bain said the latest contribution reflects TICSA’s long-term commitment to sustaining cricket at all levels, adding that renewed stability within ZC had encouraged the organisation to re-engage more actively.

He pointed to recent milestones — including Zimbabwe hosting international qualifying tournaments, the return of touring sides and the national team’s strong showing at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 — as evidence of progress within the sport.

According to Bain, improved financial discipline, stronger grassroots programmes and renewed competitiveness have helped reposition Zimbabwe cricket on the global stage, making continued support worthwhile.

ZC leadership, led by chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani, has focused on rebuilding operational stability while attracting international fixtures to venues such as Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club. These efforts have contributed to Zimbabwe hosting major events, including the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2026, alongside improved performances by the senior national side.

Makoni welcomed the renewed partnership, describing the donation as both symbolic and practical support at a time when the organisation is seeking to consolidate recent gains and expand development programmes nationwide.
