Senior Bulawayo Chiefs players report for training

A number of Bulawayo Chiefs players, who were in the Chibuku Superr= Cup winning side last year, this week took part in training in preparation for the 2023 season.

Team captain, Malvin Mkolo, who has reportedly caught the eye of Shamva-based newboys, Simba Bhora and giants Highlanders, led the troops.

Ironically, Highlanders rejected Mkolo in 2015 when he tried his luck.

Some of the players the Bulawayo side retained for the forthcoming season include Mthokozisi Msebe, Obriel Chirinda, Felix Moyo and Ben Nyahunzwi.

Chiefs’ newly appointed coach, Lizwe Sweswe, who took charge of his first session on Monday, was happy with his take-off.

“It is pleasing to see some of these senior guys here training which means we have a good base to start from. The presence of these players will help us build a team. Monday was our first meeting and we did introductions and laid out how l would like us to work. l was impressed with how the players recreated everything we did on the first day. Generally, l am happy,” said Sweswe.

Chiefs are preparing for the opening Castle Challenge Cup against Zvishavane-based FC Platinum, who have won the title four seasons in a trot.

Pure Platinum Play have already started training at the ZITF Grounds after choosing the second city for their pre-season training as they also prepare for the match, which is scheduled for next month.
