Police in Masvingo have launched a manhunt for a gunman who raped a 21-year-old nurse based at Masvingo Provincial Hospital this past Monday.
Reports say the pistol armed rapist came upon the victim and her lover having sex in a car parked in a bushy area next to TelOne offices on the eastern side of the city.
The assailant tied the 42-year-old man's hands and feet with mobile phone charger cables before leaving him naked in the car.
He then dragged the nurse into the bushes and raped her.
The man, meanwhile, managed to free himself from the restraints and went to a nearby building manned by security guards. The guards assisted him to go to Masvingo Central Police Station.
After the rape, the woman returned to the car which she found abandoned and she walked to Masvingo Central Police Station to file a report. There she met up with her partner making his own report.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the rapist also stole three cellphones, a laptop and US$20 from the pair before disappearing into the bush.
Inspector Dhewa warned residents not to turn secluded and dark spots into sex havens as they risk being attacked by criminals.
