
Former Chapungu Queens striker and Mighty Warriors forward Ethel Chinyerere has revealed her dream of playing outside Africa after signing a one-year contract with Zambian side Green Buffaloes Women FC.
The prolific striker, affectionately known as “Haaland” for her goal scoring ability, said her long term ambition is to secure a move to either Europe or Asia as she continues to grow her football career.
“My goal is to play outside Africa, whether in Europe or Asia,” said Chinyerere.
Chinyerere enjoyed an outstanding season in the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League, finishing as one of the top performers with 18 goals. Her impressive scoring form further cemented her reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s most dangerous forwards.
“Scoring goals is my work. I had to deliver so that I help my team to achieve better results,” she said.

The talented striker began her football journey with Chapungu Queens FC in 2013 before moving to Herentals Queens FC in 2017. In 2020, she returned to Chapungu, where she continued to shine with consistent performances and leadership on the field.
Throughout her career, Chinyerere has collected numerous accolades and played a key role in helping Chapungu win five trophies. In 2022, she was crowned Top Goal Scorer, a recognition that highlighted her importance in Zimbabwean women’s football.
The year 2024 proved to be particularly memorable for the forward after she was named both Top Goal Scorer and Player of the Heart Tournament. She also scooped the September FUZ Player of the Month award and earned the COSAFA Player of the Match accolade following Zimbabwe’s match against Lesotho.
Despite her growing success, Chinyerere remains grounded and focused on hard work.
“Train hard to play easy,” she often says, reflecting the discipline and determination that continue to drive her career forward.
